Amy Sarr is a Senegalese artist specialized in analog photography. She focuses on cultural identity, the ambiguity that can arise while studying it, and how the former and latter affect and come into play within social and personal experiences, with a particular interest in disseminating her native culture.
Growing up between Africa, North America and Europe, she interrogates themes that have affected her throughout her life such as collective memory, gender roles, the female experience, migration, tradition, diaspora and cultural exchange. Through documentary, vernacular and performative photography, she plays with light, color, texture and reflections to highlight neglected details, from an emotional approach to purely aesthetic research.
She uses ambiguity and juxtapositions to challenge unilateral views by bringing viewers closer to cultural richness, specificities and complexities. Amy recently completed her Photography MA at the Royal College of Arts. She is based in Paris.
Amy also shares her interests in fashion, music and travel through her work, collaborating with brands and artists on campaigns, projects, events and shows, and capturing her trips through street photography.
